Off The Shoulder, Yay or Nay?

PARA ESPAÑOL ABAJO 🙂

Hello babes!

I know this week has been hard for some of you, the ones affected by hurricane Harvey. It feels weird to me that I’m completely happy and safe in south Texas when just a few miles away people just lost their homes. From my heart, I hope that everything gets better soon. Praying for you.

I’ve seen fashion magazines calling the off the shoulder trend dead but I disagree. These magazines try to create trends but we the people are the ones that decide what comes and what goes even if you don’t believe it. If they don’t have followers to follow, it won’t work. At the beginning of the summer, I decided to stop wearing this trend that was everywhere last summer but in my head I still loved it and thought it was so flattering but I didn’t want to be out of style. I still kept seeing it selling at stores so I asked myself “why?” if this trend is supposed to be out. Then, on a trip to South Padre Island I realized that a lot of girls where still wearing it and it looked AMAZING. That’s when I realized that why follow what magazines want you to buy and not what you want to actually wear. Don’t get me wrong, I love fashion magazines, still read them almost everyday and still follow some of the trends that they imply; but now, of course I only follow the trends I like and look good on me. That’s one of the reasons that I call this blog a style blog not a fashion blog.

So here I am… wearing an off the shoulder top that I love. We still have some time left in the RGV and north Mexico to rock this style since we know the breezy weather won’t come until the end of the year, this is if it does come in the first place because you know we only get a few days of cold weather here. It’s a blessing and a curse, but we’re used to it, am I right?

I already mentioned in a past blog post that I purchased a ton of clothes from the H&M back to school sale because the deals were almost too good to be true, so of course I took advantage. This top was one of my picks and it was only $9.99. I specially love this off the shoulder top because it incorporates more trends: dotted mesh and a subtle hint of ruffles.

I styled it with a patchwork denim mini skirt. I have already talked about it in my first blog from my trip to Punta Mita, Mexico and mentioned that I purchased it at Armani Exchange like 10 years ago and had it in storage for years. Who would have known that this trend would be back? I’m so glad I saved it!

As for the shoes, I got them from Just Fab about 10 months ago. I love this style because it goes well with almost anything and they’re very comfortable. I honestly wear them like three times a week, these are my go to for everything: office, weekend, nighttime, and etcetera. The low heel makes them comfortable to walk in them all day but still give you that little height you need (at least the height I need).

I wore this outfit last Saturday to day drink with my boyfriend and some friends at University Draft House in Edinburg, TX and then ended up going to Deloreans at night in McAllen. It was a blast!

  1. H&M Dotted Mesh Top ($9.99) – The one I’m wearing!
  2. ASOS Off Shoulder Top with Ruffle Cuff ($29) – A great one for fall.

Hola babes!

Y pues aquí estoy… usando una blusa off the shoulder que me encanta.

La moda off the shoulder esta in o out?

I used to read fashion mags all the time but around 2 years ago I stopped as I realised they weren’t genuine, true and not good role models for young adults. I much prefer to read blogs with more ‘real’ people in them. I also love the off the shoulder Bardot styles and find them super flattering. Especially if you have a tan so your shoulders look all glowy! 😊
